Credit Suisse to represent India at the WCGC Championship in Spain

Puneet Matta from Credit Suisse is a busy man these days. Juggling between work and the greens he hardly has time for anything else. But there’s nothing that seems to tire him. After all few get a chance to represent their country in an event like the World Corporate Golf Championship an annual golf event of corporate teams held in exotic golf destinations across the globe. La Manga Spain, one of Europe’s most prestigious Golf resorts has been selected as the venue for this years championship.

Puneet’s team Credit Suisse consisting of Srikant Nagraj, Shivas Nath, and Nohar Nath (all from Mumbai) have by virtue of winning the “TAKE Solutions World Corporate Golf

Challenge National Finals” in India this March qualified for this prestigious tournament to be held from July 1st - 3rd, 2008.

In India this season the championship had four regional rounds - West (BPGC Mumbai and Aamby Valley, Lonavala) South (Eagleton Golf Resort, Bangalore) and North (Jaypee Greens Golf Resort, Feb 2). The top two teams from each region met in a National Final held at Aamby Valley in March 2nd 2008. Credit Suisse emerged the final winners by beating their nearest rivals, the team from Imperial Auto Ltd led by Manav Sardana, Anil Handa, Ankur Sachdeva and Vikram Bahri of Delhi.

“We are all quite excited about participating in the event. We will all practise hard for the next few weeks so we can play our best and try to bring the trophy to India for the first time” said Puneet on being questioned about the teams plans and expectations from the event.

La Manga which is home to Spanish Open, Spanish PGA Championships, Spanish Junior Championships, Ladies' Spanish Open and Senior Spanish Open for men has been voted Europe's top golf resort three times in the past four years.

India has been sending a team to the World Corporate Golf Championship finals for the past 8 years. In the past BPCL, Parle Foods, Standard Chartered Bank, Deutsche Bank, Indian Airlines, Hero Motors, GE, Golden Peacock & McCann Ericson had represented India in the Championship. Last year, the Mercedes-Benz T&T Motors led by T&T Motors Vice Chairman Ravi Talwar finished a creditable 5 th of the 25 participating countries and were voted the most popular team of the tournament!

Here’s wishing the team of Credit Suisse all the best and hope they bring laurels to the country and India’s corporate golf community will be cheering for them.
